Trying to explain the genre-less nature of XXXTENTACION, David Byrne, and Jack White’s latest albums
We're back and this time we're discussing a lot of notable happenings in music like Tekashi 6ix9ine's interview where he gets the better of the usually on point Charlamagne, Drake, Snoop Dogg, and SoundCloud rap's first number ones, and Cardi B finally giving a release date for her debut album. We then question if it's still right to listen to R. Kelly's music despite the seemingly neverending string of sexual abuse allegations. And end things by giving our thoughts and reactions to the latest albums from XXXTENTACION, David Byrne, and Jack White, and struggle to explain the genre-less nature of them all.

Drake's Summer Sixteen pop-up shop was great promo and an interesting way to reach out to fans and give out exclusive merchandise. If only they could have done something about the wait times and a lot of people unfortunately got left out.

More Life is his most experimental project to date; delivering a collection of the different eclectic sounds that have been inspiring his music lately. While initially I was disappointed that we didn't get more straight up hip-hop, especially after the more pop leaning Views, it's hard to argue the results. More Life is another win for him and will undoubtedly mainstream a lot of the artists and sounds it employs.
March had a ton of great new albums and music videos from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Minus The Bear, Drake and the Gorillaz, and it also featured some interesting trailers for IT, Justice League, and War for the Planet of the Apes. We've highlighted some of the best drops over the month and now we're ready to crown the best album, movie trailer, and music video.
The extent to which aspects of both classic art and contemporary music took on different meanings when paired together amazed me. The withdrawn looks of the subjects became coy and knowing when I wondered what secrets they would reveal “if these walls could talk”, Haim’s defiant anthem of “baby, don’t save me” became the voice of women in French high society, and Nina Simone’s simple lament felt inspired by the Avenue de Chantilly. Where the more traditional music pairings became incidental, the contemporary pieces were in dialogue with the paintings, both resisting and conforming to the tone suggested by the music.
