Video Roundup 3/18-3/24

We kick this week’s highlight of new music videos off with the dynamic producer/singer duo of Lion Babe with a video for one of their latest releases, “Honey Dew.” I love the song’s chilled out neo-soul sounds, matched perfectly by the video’s nature filled, washed out visuals that give off strong Solange-esque vibes. Jhené Aiko returns with not one, but two videos for her Kurupt assisted single, “Never Call Me.” In the first video she embraces her asian heritage with some geisha inspired aesthetics, while in the second video she embraces her LA upbringing with a visual ode to all things Slauson. You can choose which visual you want, you really can’t go wrong with either as they both mesh with the song’s overall tone surprisingly well. Underground favorites CZARFACE and MF DOOM have teamed up for a super dope video for their collaboration, “Bomb Thrown.” It’s a mix of classic animation and stop motion video with strong influences from ’80s cartoons (Masters of the Universe) and comic books. When it comes to MF DOOM you can’t get a much better visual representation of the MC than this.

Post “Rockstar”, Post Malone continues his push towards his sophomore album with “Psycho” featuring the ubiquitous Ty Dolla $ign. He really hasn’t had many, if any, misses yet and this is yet another song that goes. The video, much like his “Rockstar” one, doesn’t make any sense in terms of the song but this is what happens when the video budget keeps going up and up. Migos channel the TV classic, Soul Train, for their video for “Walk It Talk It” and it’s pure comedy. Definitely an unexpected direction from them but I like seeing them stepping outside of their usual wheel house.
