I’m not sure if Eminem released that ‘controversial’ clip of him being filmed by a woman in a motel by himself but it’s no surprise to me that that video of him getting caught slipping was actually just a publicity stunt for his latest music video for “River.” It’s basic PR 101 and while it’s sad to see him having to resort to such cheap tactics, it’s understandable after the ravaging Revival has taken. It’s a decent video with an interesting narrative but the song is just your average crossover Eminem song – nothing special. Kendrick Lamar continues to kill things with the visuals, this time for his Black Panther associated song, “King’s Dead.” There’s no clear connections with the movie but we get some Humble-esque surreal moments with an especially dope moment of Kendrick doing his best Frogger impression towards the end. Muse has made their return with a video for their latest single, “Thought Contagion.” The video is an intriguing mix of retro and near-future aesthetics bathed in neon colors with a clearly Thriller inspired monster dance number at the end. It’s one of those videos you’d just have to see for yourself.
Diplo and DRAM team up for a mellow video for their equally mellow collaboration on “Look Back.” It’s all carried by Dram wandering through a muted desert and if it didn’t have Diplo’s name attached, I would never have guessed it was from him as the song ditches much of his usual EDM sounds. Say what you want about Drake, lord knows I do, there’s no denying that he does some undeniably cool shit from time to time. For his latest video he literally gives away the whole budget (almost a million dollars) to the city and people of Miami, who he seems to have a special relationship with. This right here was inspiring and heart touching and if this didn’t make you feel some type of way then you might not have a soul. Salute to the Champagne Papi, he’s definitely got his moments and this is one of the doper ones.
