Throughout Western history, music has had a place in daily life - growing its foothold year after year. With the turn of each decade, music has turned as well. Perhaps in an effort to appeal to a developing society... Perhaps as an indicator of that same society's development...
Once in a while I’m pleasantly surprised by an evening that is so intimately tied together that you can’t divorce the performances from each other. Performances that demand to be addressed as a whole rather than cut into distinct pieces. Gordi and S. Carey put on one such performance to a sold-out crowd at DC9 Nightclub in Washington, D.C. Check out the full gallery of photos from their amazing sets here.
Carnage's "Battered, Bruised, & Bloody" is a largely forgettable collection of generic trending beats, repetitive songwriting, and weak features.
ZHU's music has always been fairly chilled out but he seems to crank that sultry, expansive vibe to another level here and that makes his airy vocals pair even better with the backing soundscapes. I like what I'm hearing so far and can't wait to see what else he has in store for this year.
Simply put, recordings of the songs can’t do the live performance justice. FRENSHIP has to be experienced in person! They’re currently on their US Tour through June 5th and should not be missed! Check out our full gallery of shots from the night.
Bright and brilliantly embellished with tasteful touches on guitar, "Humility" sounds like sunlight should and would, if it had a sound. Wooping, warbling, sliding... It's relaxed soul and upbeat jazz jumbled up together.
THECLECTIK's latest is a mad mix of hip-hop fusion that may sound crazy on paper, but it works in execution; and the project's to the point lyrics about navigating society in an ever more disconnected world make for one of the more intriguing listens of the year so far.
We've just gotten a press release from What So Not announcing all of the dates through his upcoming tour, so check it out and start marking your calendars now.
Chris Emerson aka What So Not stopped by the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. and threw down. Exactly a year after his last appearance, D.C. was ready for more great vibes. With an opening DJ set by Chrome Sparks, the dimly lit room set the mood for chill and mellow beats. Check out our full gallery of shots and be sure to catch him on tour.
Clean Bandit have made a name for themselves thanks to some massive singles but outside of those hits, 'What Is Love?' doesn't deliver anything new or different to the dance scene.
James Blake remains in a lane of his own as he continues to deliver some of the most interesting and unexpected music out there.
If you are in France on June 8, you might want to go to the Palace of Versailles as this historic place is set to hold its first ever rave.
Most people know Diplo for those big, dance ready anthems that shake the roofs off clubs, but on California EP he's opted for a more subdued, even emotional sound that's meant to move you in a different way than on the dance floor.
All in all, Sango's "In the Comfort Of" is a really thoughtful and lush album that does a great job of blending hip-hop, R&B, and electronic sounds, while contemplating spirituality, life, and love.
Alison Wonderland's sophomore effort is a crazy mix of wide ranging sounds that kept me on my toes throughout, not really knowing what to expect next. I'm not the biggest EDM fan but I really enjoyed her brand of music and I never would have guessed that someone could make me like a Chief Keef EDM song as much as I did.
Human feels like an awakening, a new direction in life, and a result of a search for deeper understanding. It's an album that's full of spirituality and (at times overtly) religious overtones that sees Steve Angello pull out all of the tools in his deep tool kit, and while it's a clear departure from the music that thrust him to the upper echelons, it's a glorious new beginning to something special.
Dada Life's "Our Nation" is enjoyable in that it's more Dada and they do those monster, face-melting songs as good as anyone out there, but the album as a whole feels a bit too formulaic and at times outdated compared to where everyone else is in EDM.
Everything Chromeo has to offer here is so shallow and devoid of any real soul that not even their varied array of guest features could do much to save it. All this album did was make me want to listen to some real funk.
From opening with a Cello performance to playing songs from her recent album, everyone enjoyed the vibes. Alison felt the support from her fans which moved her to tears later in the show. Check out our full gallery of shots and be sure to catch her on tour.
"No Sleep No Sleep" is not only groovy, but groovy that’s masterfully wrapped in a unique musical sheath of a few very different types of genres.
Electronic composer James Pinkstone aka EveningShade and his new EP 'Impulses' instantly evokes the horror and sci-fi vibes of the '80s movie music.
Toro y Moi manages to reinvent himself again with an album full of retro influenced grooves that make you want to get up and dance. Good vibes all the way.
Broods' latest reaches some incredible heights, and while the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to those few moments, 'Don't Feed The Pop Monster' is still a compelling blend of indie pop and electronica.
HEALTH. Bone-shuddering bass. Pitch blackness punctuated by staccato strobes searing freeze-frame scenes in your brain. HEALTH. Intense darkwave/industrial club vibes with velvet-soft vocals crescendoing to a discordant shriek. Do I have your attention now? Good. Check out our full collection of shots from the show.
