6 years go with the release of their epic The Rules of Dada, it felt like Dada Life were poised to be the next big thing on the EDM/electronic scene…and then they disappeared. 6 years in music is a long time and things change and have changed drastically since we last heard from them. Whether or not they recapture that energy they were building was a big question mark for me going into Our Nation. My answer coming out of it…yes and no. Their sound is instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with their previous work, with songs ranging everywhere from monster bangers like “Do It Till Your Face Hurts” to more poppy, lyric driven stuff like “Sunday Fuck You Too.” It’s enjoyable in that it’s more Dada and they do those monster, face-melting songs as good as anyone out there, but the album as a whole feels a bit too formulaic and at times outdated compared to where everyone else is in EDM. Our Nation would have been a great follow-up, 5, even 4 years ago, but now they feel like they have some catching up to do.
You can smile but you can’t hide

Keep on sharing what you don’t know
Going down our rabbit hole
Just because we say so– “We Want Your Soul”
