Stoned On Ocean EP is the tried and true formula we've been hearing for the past couple of years. The laid back, soulful production and raps still sound great, but it might be time to shake things up a bit.
Taylor Swift certainly has a reputation...but do we care about her newest one?

Things just seem to gel better with Brown's more traditional boom-bap and sample heavy sounds as Ghostface Killah's sinister lyrics glide more effortlessly than before and the dark tales have decidedly more pop. The end result may be less ambitious than Younge's previous effort but it is a better match and a smoother listen.
Goodbye June and Greta Van Fleet put on amazing sets for a packed house at DC9 Nightclub in Washington, D.C. on August 26. Goodbye June opened the night with great energy and their unique classic southern rock influenced sound blended with a modern edge. Greta Van Fleet headlined and from the opening chord brought a sonic "tour de force" that pictures just can't do justice.
Quality Control's first compilation is essentially Migos and friends. A smart move on their parts but it did very little to convince that their other acts are worth my attention. There are some real highlights here but you have to dig through a lot of trash to get to a "Pop Sh*t."
What happens when lifelong rock fans get old? They spread memes. I can’t imagine anything less rock ’n’ roll than complaining on Facebook about the musical tastes of kids these days.
Darkness and Light is his most ambitious album in years, flirting with the deeper, darker side of himself but never fully committing to going 'there.' Resulting in yet another great sounding but safe album that doesn't resonate for all that long.
The Drum Chord Theory is the second solo offering to come from the members of The Internet and it's their second really strong offering that shows off everything they're capable of as individuals. Matt Martians is a phenomenal rising producer who's crafted some great experimental grooves that dabble in funk, R&B, and neo-soul. There are some definite hints of early Pharrell and Star Trak.

May had a ton of great new albums and music videos from the likes of Bryson Tiller, Elton John, Paramore and Travis Scott; and it also featured some interesting trailers for Blade Runner: 2049, The Dark Tower, and It Comes At Night. We've highlighted some of the best drops over the month and now we're ready to crown the best album, movie trailer, and music video.
Jaron Lamar Davis' debut album is smooth and crisp and left me with a much deeper appreciation for all the nuances of jazz as a genre and it's an album I find myself throwing on often to really unwind. The drumming doesn't always take center stage but when it does it's exceptional.
I think before I can continue with this trilogy (Frodo not Neo) I need to clarify what makes something a fear. There's a lot of things out there that make people uncomfortable; for example, a lot of people feel uncomfortable doing public speaking but they don't necessarily fear it, they'd prefer not to do it but if push comes to shove they'd be able to get up there and get through it. Now for someone with an absolute fear of it, nothing short of the will of God could make that person do it and if that will does one day come to pass they may just faint, convulse, vomit (true story), really do anything other than look like public speakers. For me, the thought of being average doesn't just make me uncomfortable it down right terrifies me; I'm shaking right now just writing out you know what. The day I feel like I'm living average may just be the day I say goodbye to the world and all my unborn seeds because death would be a reprieve from that life of hell. See the difference? Good, now let's continue...
While there were some flashes of potential on Ransom 2, they were few and far in between and some of the most interesting production was often dragged down by some truly weak features. It never left much of an impact and you've surely heard better Mike WiLL on other artist's projects.
There was a shocking lack of topical social commentary from one of rap's most vocal social activists, and I think that was a huge missed opportunity. But if you miss that real 'soul' of hip-hop and real bars, then you can do much worse than Radio Silence.
MySpace, once the key promoter of independent music and upcoming artists has lost 50 million songs from 12 million artists accumulated during a 12 year period between 2002 and 2015.
Historian is an LA-based psych-folk band which evokes the audio image of a tripping-on-acid Leonard Cohen. And just like a psychedelic journey can have almost diametrically opposite in nature stops, so does Historian’s Expanse LP.
SiR's debut is a refreshing listen and change of pace from what's out there today, as it's rooted in more traditional R&B tropes of true love and relationships, and while I don't think it'll set the world on fire, it's a very strong starting point for even greater things in the future. TDE has yet to miss on an artist.
We're back and we're talking about all of the recent music and music news that has happened recently. We try to rank Jay-Z's catalog, give our picks for the top 5 albums of the year so far, and go on a tangent about the drug culture in hip-hop.
SHINE might just be Wale's most commercial album to date. There's some undeniably catchy stuff on here and he still displays some excellent lyrical ability but it suffers greatly from a lack of balance and his music loses much of his identity. When he finally figures out how to stop worrying about everyone else's opinions and just worries about making himself happy, then we'll get that definitive Wale album. This is not it.
4eva Is a Mighty Long Time is Big K.R.I.T.'s most ambitious project yet, and while it doesn't answer all of the criticisms people have of him, it is him at his absolute best and it's his most listenable, yet still deep, album yet. If this doesn't prove that he belongs in the conversation with the Kendricks and J. Coles of the world, then nothing will.
I really didn't know what to expect from The Chainsmokers but somehow what we got on their debut still felt expected, like I've heard this a million times. For a group with a song as big as "Closer" their album is oddly muted and underwhelming.
This joint project has been a long time coming but unfortunately it doesn't quite live up to it's potential. Instead of raising each other's level they instead fall back to their usual formulas on songs that sound more like past throwaways than fresh, new creations.
