We talk about the possible demise of Rolling Stone as it's going up for sale for the first time since it's start in 1967. We talk about how we think they've lost their true identity as the counterculture bible and how they could possibly get it back. We finish things by talking about new albums we've been listening to like Jhené Aiko, Rapsody, Queens of the Stone Age, and the Foo Fighters.
Sleep Well Beast doesn't totally shed their controlled, intimate approach to their music but it's more aggressive (in their terms) sound has paid off in meaningful ways, adding a new dimension to their music and overall ceiling as a band.
Queens of the Stone Age worked with Mark Ronson to create their most accessible album yet, while still providing the depth, nuance, and wit you've come to expect from them. This is contemporary hard rock done the right way and an absolute must listen.
Wonderful Wonderful turned out to be a meandering, slightly above average album that failed to live up to the potential of it's lead singles.
Kesha was definitely at a career crossroads and Rainbow was just the new direction and sound she needed to ensure it's longevity. It was a highly personal affair that felt like she was finally able to express her true artistic voice, and it's a good one.
Katy Perry promised meaningful pop music and something career altering but instead we got more of the same generally solid pop music that doesn't go more than waist deep.
Toro y Moi has returned with yet another super enjoyable album that shows off his incredible breadth as an artist. His brand of indie electronic lo-fi pop is always unexpected but usually in the good way, like this here.
Check out some of this week's most talked about and interesting film trailers like Hostiles, Red Sparrow, Mudbound, Downsizing, Insidious: The Last Key, and more.
Still Striving is a mindless, hard-hitting, turn-up mixtape that doesn't do anything to elevate A$AP Ferg's career but it will wash out the bad taste of his last album for a lot of his fans. The production is the real MVP here.
A$AP Twelvyy's debut won't make him a household name or the Mob's next breakout artist but it's a very solid project that really captures that NY feel and at the least make him a respected act in the industry. A solid start to a long delayed career.
August had a ton of great new albums and music videos from the likes of Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Logic and The Killers; and it also featured some interesting trailers for mother!, You Were Never Really Here, and Loving Vincent. We've highlighted some of the best drops over the month and now we're ready to crown the best album, movie trailer, and music video.
Check out some of this weeks most talked about and interesting music videos from U2, Maroon 5, HAIM, Dave East, Young Thug, and more.
Brianna Bullentini talks about what brand/company is currently having the most impact on her and her work for our IMPACT series.
Foo Fighters are about as safe a bet as you can place in rock and roll. They don't do anything new here or take any significant risks, but they still continue to churn out good music. They're like that old reliable friend that you know is going to be there no matter what's happening around them.
Arcade Fire has delivered a mixed bag with Everything Now. There are some really great moments of synth heavy pop-rock here that get undercut by poor songwriting and flat messaging, despite their noble intents.
Check out some of this weeks most talked about and interesting music videos from Sam Smith, Linkin Park, Macklemore, The Maine, Avicii, and more.
Something To Tell You was my first Haim experience and it left me impressed not only with their great harmonizing and melodies, but also their deceptively accessible sound that belies their underlying complexity and stylistic breadth. It's a wonder they're not bigger than they already are yet.
This week we're talking about the Emmys notable moments and winners, recently ended seasons of The Strain and Preacher, new trailers for The Punisher and the Tomb Raider reboot, and end with our thoughts on Apple's new product launches.
Artists are continuing to line up to work with Apollo Brown and for good reason. His sampling is on another level and his lush, soulful production is exceptional as always. Anchovies isn't my favorite project of his but I'll take as much Apollo Brown production as I can get.
Check out some of this weeks most talked about and interesting music videos from Rick Ross, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, Bryson Tiller, Machine Gun Kelly, and more.
DJ Khaled returned with yet another album full of interesting collaborations and team-ups that rarely, if ever, live up to their potential for something special. Leaving a disappointing taste once again and not much replay value. But he got his big single so he'll be back with "another one" of these shortly.
We're back and we're talking about all of the recent music and music news that has happened recently. We try to rank Jay-Z's catalog, give our picks for the top 5 albums of the year so far, and go on a tangent about the drug culture in hip-hop.
Flower Boy is surprisingly sophisticated with more mellow moments of introspection than shock raps. He really shows off his full artistry and the spectacular production really made me see what all the hype's been about for the first time.
