February was a massive month for music that included a lot of heavy hitters dropping full lengths as well as...
Stoney is pure style over substance. Full of that "trill pop" sound he basically birthed, with mainly forgettable verses, but big, catchy hooks, and irresistible melodies. It's a solid debut that proves he's more than just "White Iverson."
UK Drill is the fast rising new sound in British hip-hop that's built on the hostility and aggression found in drill music popularized by the likes of Chief Keef. It's not without it's challenges and naysayers but it's providing opportunities and changing the rap scene.
Things just seem to gel better with Brown's more traditional boom-bap and sample heavy sounds as Ghostface Killah's sinister lyrics glide more effortlessly than before and the dark tales have decidedly more pop. The end result may be less ambitious than Younge's previous effort but it is a better match and a smoother listen.
Iggy Azalea's latest is a bit better than all the other generic, run of the mill, hyper-sexualized rap that floods the airwaves, but it's nothing that will really leave a lasting impact.
It's not a bad album - the production is good, although not as good as Daytona, and more of an extension of TLOP - but ye was a major letdown for anyone looking for something more behind the self-centered, PR shtick we've gotten for the past month.
At one point a solo Quavo project was something that we all thought we wanted, but now it's painfully apparent that it's something that we definitely don't need.
Today we're excited to be premiering the latest single from Jay Americana. "Sweat" is a unique blend of hip-hop and electronica that replicates the pounding sound and intense atmosphere of a dance floor.
New York City honors the hip-hop giants by renaming the neighborhood where they originated to the Wu-Tang District.
Black Panther The Album's greatest strength is that it can both stand on it's own and work in the context of the movie it's connected to, and much like Black Panther will undoubtedly change the movie scene I expect this to do the same for soundtracks.
Dramatic piano-driven soul and uplifting lyrics make Logic and Ryan Tedder's "One Day" a very enjoyable listen.
With "INNOV8!," L.A. rapper Nemesis lives up to the title of her single and brings old school rap up to modern times.
Alan Ward, the Mid-West rapper with a soulful touch, emerges as a torchbearer of the golden era of rap with his latest single, "Bucket."
It's been a long road to redemption for Charles Hamilton, but one monkey has been lifted off his back. His long awaited debut, Hamilton, Charles, didn't quite live up to the immense expectations, but it was a solid start. Full of bright, bouncy beats that evoke a feeling of hope and positivity; emotions that carry over to his still strong lyricism. His style and delivery however, you either love it or you hate it.
In terms of being a major debut, Big Fish Theory was a bit disappointing as he moved further and further into experimental sounds. Some of his raw, matter of fact rhymes were still present but as a whole this album resonated with me far less than any of his previous work.
Our thoughts, opinions, and live reaction to the latest album from Young Thug, 'Business Is Business.'
Real African rhythms with rumbling guitars and Zamba’s lyrics, with neither the beats, rhythms, or Zamba’s raps missing a single step.
Check out our sit down with rising rapper West, where we talk about his new single and video "Checks", going viral with his previous song "Euro$tep", Chinese rappers and influence, writing vs freestyling, and more.
AKTHESAVIOR & sagun have returned with, "Dear World," the final preview before the release of their joint lo-fi hip-hop project.
Big Boi tries hard to balance his usual funk filled sound with more modern fare on Boomiverse but it doesn't always work. There aren't many duds here but it often left me feeling like I was listening to anything but a Big Boi album. However, him and Killer Mike together is gold as always.
We're excited to be premiering, "It Is What It Is," the latest single from emerging Minneapolis hip-hop duo Dom Rivers & Dre Taylor.
Metro Boomin's latest, while technically competent, is a sluggish affair that doesn't live up to his past or pave a clear way forward. A mixed bag of mundane.
Rae Sremmurd has proven that they sound fine as solo artists but "Sr3mm", while not musically as good as "Swaecation" and a bit better than "Jxmtro", shows that they still sound at their best when feeding off of each other's energy and what they both respectively bring to the table.
While not as realized or surprising as Kendrick's 'Black Panther' album, Mike WiLL Made-It still delivers a largely enjoyable album that will surely push more collaborations between Hollywood and hip-hop.
