Smokepurpp may not have the ‘Lil’ in his name but he is definitely a part of this new generation of ‘SoundCloud rappers.’ So much so that if he wasn’t constantly dropping his own name in lines I’d easily confuse him with the countless others out there. I’m honestly not sure what has had his name buzzing over this past year because everything off Bless Yo Trap sounds like everything I’ve been hearing for the past year or so. Like his cohorts, it’s pretty much pointless even talking about lyrical content or lyricism – it’s all about as deep as a kiddie pool, and the production which may have started out as divergent from the mainstream sound when this wave started, is all but generic now. Bless Yo Trap is a by the numbers ‘SoundCloud rap’ album that fails to produce anything really worth of note. When the bar of entry into this sub-genre is this low they were always bound to start cannibalizing each others’ sound and fan base sooner than later.
“This is a fur from koala
My niggas scammers and robbers
Everything hit like the Dodgers
Drop all my chains in the water”
