Chicago artist and rapper Juice Mazelee is sharing his second album HERE NOW N FOREVER this summer (6/20) and he’s releasing a few singles before then, including the newest one “WISH N A PRAYER.”
He shared his blend of rap, R&B, jazz, and pop with storytelling on his debut album HVNSNT (“Heavensent”) a few years ago, and his upcoming record leans further into the soulful side of his music.
Juice has been working with a lot of soul and hip-hop artists across Chicago — including Ifeanyi Elswith and Wyatt Waddell for the debut — and his next album also features several guests, this time local rappers like D2G and producers like The Third. While some of Juice’s debut album could go hard on songs like “Crown,” his newest singles sound more similar to fellow Chicago-born rappers Common and Lupe Fiasco.
Lyrical Lemonade wrote they were “instantly impressed with Juice Mazelee’s cutthroat rapping ability, he gave us three and a half minutes of pure bars.” Chicago public radio station Vocalo wrote, “Juice Mazelee’s storytelling lyricism about casting out past demons is outlined by an equally powerful backbeat on a moving melodic line.”
Juice is also an active member of his community, working with local theaters and even meeting former president Barack Obama this past year through Juice’s involvement with the organization My Brother’s Keeper.
