An all-new anime remake of the much beloved One Piece series is on the way. The new remake is coming to Netflix and will start from the iconic East Blue Saga.
The news was shared during Jump Festa 2024 alongside a teaser and some gorgeous art for the series. This latest news comes while the One Piece anime is celebrating its 25th anniversary. No release date or casting information was revealed.
This new adaptation will be in development by WIT Studio – known for their work on Attack on Titan and Spy x Family. WIT Studio was founded in 2012 and has also worked on Ranking of Kings and the first seasons of The Ancient Magus’ Bride and Vinland Saga.
What makes this remake announcement even crazier is that the original anime (celebrating its 25th anniversary) has even finished yet. One Piece began its legendary run as a manga from Eiichiro Oda in July 1997. It was then adapted into an anime in 1999 that is still going strong today with over 1,000 episodes. It also had a live-action remake on Netflix earlier this year.
The remake is officially title The One Piece, as to differentiate itself from the other ongoing series. It’s still unclear what significant differences there will be between the two series, but we can expected vastly updated animation and there’s an aim to bring newcomers in by fixing a lot of the early length and pacing issues.
Their stated goal is to “provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.” Will you be tuning in for this remake?
