Nick Cave Novel ‘The Death of Bunny Monro’ to Be Adapted for TV

Matt Smith will play the titular role

Renowned singer-songwriter Nick Cave is also known for his writing, and The Death of Bunny Monro was the second novel he published.

Now, according to Hollywood Reporter, this novel will be adapted for TV as a limited series, starring Matt Smith, known for his roles in House of the Dragon, Doctor Who, and The Crown.

Smith, who is also producing the show, will play the titular role: a door-to-door salesman with a sex addiction who embarks on a debauched road trip with his 9-year-old son while struggling to deal with his wife’s suicide. Isabella Eklöf will direct and, alongside Cave, executive produce the series.

In a statement, via THR, Cave said, “Finally, someone with the courage to take on this unholy tale. I am thrilled that Sky and Clerkenwell Films are bringing Bunny to life, in all his flawed glory, and I can think of nobody better than Matt Smith to play him.”

In his own statement, Smith called the novel “a brilliant exploration of love, grief, and chaos. At its heart a deep, difficult, and tender story about a father and son, coping with loss and change.”
