Sam Mendes will Direct Four Separate Beatles Biopics

The four films are now set to be released in 2027

American Beauty, Skyfall, and 1917 director Sam Mendes is working on four separate biopics for each member of The Beatles. The four films are now set to be released in 2027. These would be the first scripted Beatles films with rights to the band’s life stories and music catalog.

Mendes both scripted and will direct the four films one from each band member’s point of view. The films were authorized by both Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison.

Mendes said in a press release, “I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.” Sony Pictures Entertainment and Neal Street Productions will handle production and distribution.

As Pitchfork reminds, back in 2021, Peter Jackson helmed a documentary on the making of Let It Be; read Jayson Greene’s review, “The Beatles: Get Back Rewrites the Fab Four’s Ending.” Late last year, the surviving Beatles released their purported final song after recovering a 1970 John Lennon recording.
