Many people are well aware of the cult classic cyberpunk manga/anime Akira, considered to be a landmark moment and one of the most influential releases in Japanese animation. The creator, Katsuhiro Otomo is a well-known Japanese manga artist, screenwriter, animator, and a film director. Best known for his work in the creation of Akira which rewarded him with the Silver Scream Award.
Now, Katsuhiro Otomo is planning to create another masterpiece manga as recently, he revealed a teaser for his long-anticipated new project on X (Twitter). A snapshot of a whiteboard revealed the character Kikyo, which was previously revealed by Otomo. In a speech bubble, Kiyoko claimed to have dreamt of Otomo-sensei working on a new manga to which he responded, “Kikyo’s prophetic dream will become reality”:

The inception of this project traces back to 2012 when Otomo first tantalized fans with the prospect, initially eyeing a Fall 2012 release. However, the wheels of time turned, and the project encountered delays, leaving eager readers in suspense until 2018.
It was in this pivotal year that Otomo broke the silence, unveiling that he was engrossed in the creation of a full-length manga. The catch? It would be set in a bygone age, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the already mysterious project. Since this revelation, details have been sparse, leaving fans hanging onto every tidbit of information that Otomo might share.
