Tanukichan Are Wrapping Up a Big Year with Fuzzy New Single “NPC”

A fuzzy groover about spectating the mundaneness of life

Tanukichan has had a big year. Returning from an extended absence to release their critically-celebrated sophomore album GIZMO on Toro Y Moi’s Company Records in February, the Hannah Van Loon-led project has reached new heights, racking up millions of streams, selling out nearly every date on their US tour in support of the album before joining Alvvays and Alex G on their summer run.

Next week the band will embark on their final tour of the year, accompanied by dream pop upstarts Wishy, that will lead them to Austin’s Levitation Festival, where they will share the stage with Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Blonde Redhead and Bully. In advance of those dates, Tanukichan are sharing a new single entitled “NPC” along with it’s accompanying video.

“‘NPC’, non-player character, is about exactly that, ” Van Loon explains. “Feeling like one person in a million, blending in and being a spectator to the mundaneness of life. Maybe avoiding some responsibilities.

I wrote NPC with my live band as well, so this video is so special and perfect for the song. We toured for months and got to play huge venues together. It’s a full circle moment with this song as the soundtrack.
