It seems that there is a very budding post-rock/prog scene in India these days.

One of the most prominent exponents is Ioish (pronounced eye-o-ish). The band was created by Vaibhav Bhutani, a prolific guitarist based in New Delhi. At its genesis, Ioish was a home studio project which later found some traction by enlisting Abhinav Chaudhary on bass and Anshul Lall on drums, both being known figures in the independent music scene. They are considered as the oldest all-instrumental band in the country.

Their first EP We Move The Sky came out in 2016, with the follow-up album Reconstructing Dreams coming in 2018. The project has moved on with Shantanu Sudarshan on drums, Nikhil Rufus Raj on bass, Saksham Gupta on guitar, and Vaibhav as the composer.

Now, preparing their new album titled In Waves, Ioish has delivered their latest single “What You Need It For.” It is an excellent take on the post-rock/prog road the band is on showing both their compositional and instrumental capabilities in great light, rightfully rising the interest of all fans of the genre.
