Joseph Deenmamode, aka Mo Kolours is obviously a courageous artist. On his latest offering Original Flow: Chapter One, the U.K. artist is not afraid to tackle at the same time ‘standard’ R&B and soul, hip hop, jazz, different Reggae forms and what not else, splice them, re-arrange them, and then take them on a completely different course. At the same time he kept his concept intact creating something quite new and special.
To create the music here, Deenmamode at the same time used musical elements from sessions, improvisations and soundbites, from almost anywhere. As he explains, “I’m proud of this album’s creative process. Coming from a tradition of scouring through hours of records, I wanted to create my own samples, to find that perfect loop that no other producer could put their hands on. I decided to invite a group of friends and acquaintances, who also happen to be incredible musicians, to a studio in Crystal Palace to improvise based on some loose ideas I had. We spent all day, and recorded everything”.
Even with such a diverse and intriguing process, that could have ended in a complete disaster, Mo Kolours comes through completely unscathed, creative music that is thoroughly creative and inventive.
