Recently featured by NPR Morning Edition, Snapchat and as the cover of Spotify’s “All New Jazz” playlist, internationally celebrated rising saxophonist Mike Casey launches a unique, interactive, album-as-an-app experience for his acclaimed 2020 Law of Attraction album, which features Grammy nominated Benito Gonzalez (pianist in jazz icon Pharoah Sanders’ quartet) joining his longtime trio (Corey Garcia, Matt Dwonszyk) on a few songs.
On the horizon, Mike is opening for Blue Note Records artist Makaya McCraven on May 21 at 8PM in Philadelphia at World Cafe Live (downstairs). Recently, he had shows in NYC (Rockwood Music Hall) & CT (La Grua) on April 21 & 22 respectively to celebrate the app launch as well as an upcoming Outtakes: Law of Attraction Sessions EP.
Recorded in July 2018 at Omer Avital’s Brooklyn NYC studio “Wilson Live” in 100 degree heat with no air conditioning, headphones, monitors or studio tricks, the musically diverse Law of Attraction album has had quite the run as a self released visual album against all odds without label or management support – with features from Huffington Post, Spotify’s “Best Jazz of 2020”, JazzTimes, Jazz FM, Jazziz, Pandora, Amazon, Apple Music, Soundcloud, BBC, 3RRR, Radio France, ASCAP, YouTube Music, Vevo, Stingray, legendary jazz A&R Wulf Muller and more- not to mention passing 2.5 million streams across platforms since its release, and album tour dates at the Kennedy Center, City of Asylum, Chelsea Music Hall, and The Side Door Jazz Club. 1 month before the album’s October 2020 release, Mike & his trio were 1 of 5 global bands selected for the biggest ensemble based competition in jazz – the DC Jazz Festival’s DC Jazz Prix. In April 2021, Mike made history with releasing one of the first, if not the first, studio visual jazz album NFT collection for Law of Attraction, which was featured on the front page of OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace.
