Pioneering prog-R&B outfit Issues have broken their nearly four-year silence to share a farewell statement to their fans and announce a string of three final shows this January.
Our thoughts, opinions, and live reaction to the latest album from J. Cole, 'Might Delete Later.' Is the best rapper alive right now?
Janelle Monáe is at her most authentic self here, but while much of it is about self expression and living your truth, it's still very timely and aware of the larger things happening in our society (protest music you can party to). An album all her own sound that can only be described as 'futuristic funk' - it's sonics are lush, it's synths are bright, and it's bounce is irresistible.
Jessie Reyez's short, sharp, 7-track project delivers a refreshingly blunt and honest look at the singer in a way you don't often see. It's a whole vibe and she may just be the best new thing to come out of 2018.
Trip felt like Jhené Aiko's most fully realized project yet and a major improvement over her major debut. It was just nowhere near as psychedelic as it was implied or as I hoped for, and ended up being a pretty straightforward ride.
JMSN has been one of the most consistent artists out there. Constantly giving us solid project after solid project. Whatever Makes U Happy won't change your opinion about him but it's yet another solid project that really captures the essence of that 90's era neo-soul he loves so much.
Joji showed surprising amount of skill and understanding in the R&B/neo-soul realm and left his own unique stamp on the genre in unexpected ways. An overall enjoyable listen with more highs than lows.
London based artist JUDVH, has released, "Fall for You", a soulful R&B song that draws inspiration from legendary musical icons.
Despite the clear similarities to Amy Winehouse, Kali Uchis' music stands on it's own and it's a brilliant exploration of blues, funk, soul, R&B, and latin sounds, which she maneuvers through with impressive ease. Isolation is a breathtaking debut and a statement piece that shows she might just be music's next big thing.
Up-and-coming R&B artist Kep Lockhart has released "This That," a vibrant single which beautifully captures the excitement of finding true love.
Khalid's latest is more of a sidestep than a leap forward and although he shows some maturation and still can create generally enjoyable music, it all feels rather inconsequential.
This slow-burning, mid-tempo R&B ballad puts the '"Main Focus" on Lauren G as a singer and songwriter.
On the heels of announcing their final six shows, pioneering prog-R&B outfit Issues have shared a surprise single “Since I Lost You.”
'4275' is a nice trip down memory lane while Jacquees still brings enough new swagger to the table to make it not feel like a tribute album.
Between Jeremih's strong vocals and Ty Dolla $ign's skills as a songwriter, the pair were able to craft one of the rare joint projects that's actually worth the effort.
Get ready for something you’ve never heard before in producer/vocalist/drummer Jharis Yokley’s thunderous debut single “Move On.”
JMSN dives even further into his love and appreciation for traditional R&B and soul and has delivered maybe his best album yet.
Darkness and Light is his most ambitious album in years, flirting with the deeper, darker side of himself but never fully committing to going 'there.' Resulting in yet another great sounding but safe album that doesn't resonate for all that long.
Jorja Smith's debut shows just how wildly talented she is and why she has to potential to be a transformative force in music. A must listen.
Our thoughts, opinions, and live reaction to the latest album from Kali Uchis, 'Red Moon In Venus.'
SweetSexySavage was a solid, albeit somewhat shallow, major debut from the singer. It's high quality, studio production combined with her great prototypical R&B voice and natural swagger create some really infectious moments, but ultimately drags on a bit due to it's sheer length.
American Teen is an interesting first effort from the up and comer. It has a really unique retro feel to it that sets it apart from his peers, but at times it can come off as too forced. If hipster had a sound, this might be it. But I can see why so many are excited about his potential. He's like a lesser, male American Lorde.
King Dream is thrilled to release their brand new album, Glory Days V, an exciting blend of bedroom R&B and psychedelia.
It's almost impossible not to get caught up in the nostalgic bliss of Leon Bridges' "Good Thing" but there's enough modernity present to keep me coming back for more than just the family cookout.
