Producer/composer Thomas Powers is sharing his next A/B single “Best For You” b/w “An Opening.” Best known as half of NZ pop duo The Naked & Famous, Thomas returns here with another mirrored single, with his moody electronic pop showcased on “Best For You” and his neo-classical/minimalist side on “An Opening.” In a beautiful note, each track begins with the same piano arpeggio motif before moving in complete opposite directions.
This latest single pack is just the latest tease of his upcoming debut album, A Tyrant Crying In Private, set to arrive this Spring.
“Best For You,” co-written with Luna Shadows and produced by Powers, explores the complexities of a relationship amidst mutual goals and underlying resentment. “It’s about reconciling desires with the realities of others’ choices,” explains Powers.
Powers showcases his versatility on “Best For You,” an atmospheric indie electronic track, and “An Opening,” a lush symphonic post-classical piece featuring strings by frequent collaborator Rob Moose.
A Tyrant Crying In Private is set to feature collaborations from Julien Baker, Chelsea Jade, Rob Moose, and Now Now.
