Katie von Schleicher Drops Enchanting New Indie Pop Track “Pilea”

A tender ode to the act of nurturing and caring for the things that you love

Indie sensation Katie von Schleicher is set to enchant audiences with her latest single, “Pilea.” This captivating track serves as a tender ode to the act of nurturing and caring for the things that bring us joy and fulfillment.

“Pilea” is a song about taking care of things that you love, especially things that rely on you to take care of them. In this case, a pilea plant and my bird Ursula. The music was written around the same time as ‘Touch’ but recorded after, and with some of the same players—swapped out the string arrangements of the record for Alec Spiegelman’s bass clarinet. In the end, Ursula did eat the pilea, but I did my best.

“Pilea” is a mesmerizing indie pop gem that showcases von Schleicher’s distinctive blend of ethereal melodies, poignant lyricism, and emotive vocal delivery. From the moment the delicate chords sweep in, listeners are transported into von Schleicher’s world, where beauty and vulnerability intertwine.

At its core, “Pilea” is a heartfelt meditation on the importance of tending to the things we hold dear – whether it be relationships, passions, or dreams. Through her evocative lyrics and soul-stirring vocals, von Schleicher captures the essence of love and devotion, inviting listeners to cherish and nurture the things that bring meaning to their lives.

Katie von Schleicher’s intimate performance on “Pilea” further solidifies her reputation as a masterful storyteller and emotive vocalist. Her delicate phrasing and nuanced delivery imbue the song with a sense of intimacy and vulnerability, drawing listeners in with every heartfelt word and melodic flourish.

“Pilea” is her first new recording since the release of October’s critically acclaimed A Little Touch of Schleicher in the Night and January’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Vibing with this one?
