If you didn’t know, Azealia Banks is officially back and her latest single, “Anna Wintour”, is pure fire. It’s heavy ’80s house dance grooves perfectly embody it’s high-fashion title, the video however, does not. Can’t help but feel like she missed an opportunity to really let her return be known with the bare bones visuals for a song that’s anything but. Banks’ best friend Cardi B is also back with her latest set of visuals for, “Be Careful”, the first song to really show the vulnerable side of her. The video looks like it was directly inspired by Kill Bill with it’s Western aesthetics and her femme fatale performance. Clearly a high production shoot, but it’s lacking in any real emotion. Cardi B makes another appearance as she joins Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled for Lopez’s latest single, “Dinero.” We can definitely hear this one making an impact on the radio and for a song all about money, the video definitely captures that with all the gaudy displays of lavishness. The product placement is almost hilarious at points (Jersey Mike’s really?), but I guess somebody has to pay for all the exotic animals.
Christina Aguilera continues her comeback push with her second, much more subdued single about women empowerment and independence. Co-starring Demi Lovato, the video drives home that message of escaping those social bonds in a visceral, albeit nonsensical manner. John Mayer returns with a video that’s so bad that it’s good for “New Light.” It literally looks like it’s pulled from the early days of YouTube when kids were just starting to figure out green screens and it somehow works with his effortlessly cool vibes on the song itself.
