Filling their videos as full of stars as they possibly can seems to be the trend for a lot of EDM producers and maybe none more than Steve Aoki. His latest one for “Waste It On Me” is a who’s who of Asian-American stars for no other apparent reason than he can, and while the song is a sure hit, it feels like yet another generic Top 40s song. No matter how you feel about A$AP Rocky’s music you can’t say it lacks creativity and risk-taking. “Sundress” is a left field sound that seems to go in the complete opposite direction that most hip-hop is taking these days and its psychedelic tones are impressively brought to life with a fantastic set of visuals that make great use of 70s-esque aesthetics and freeze frame trickery. He has always been one of the best in music when it came to the video side of things though. Vic Mensa’s career certainly hasn’t gone the way many people thought it would and the days of Innanetape seem to be long past as he pushes further and further into this dark, gothic style with his music. “Dark Things” is so peak ‘edge’ that it’s almost comical, but we’d be lying if we said it doesn’t have a nice bounce to it.
Jaden Smith has been one of the biggest surprises in music, particularly due to his impressive debut, but he’s gotta be careful now as much of his new music is starting to sound and feel the same, even down the videos which uses the same aesthetics for I don’t know, the 20th time in a row now. Cool song, but might be time to switch things up a bit. Public opinion of “ZEZE” has certainly taken a sharp turn after it was so highly anticipated following an earlier snippet, it’s been an odd single, and only made even odder by the absolutely zaney, nonsensical official video we got for it. So odd that I don’t even know what to think about it, which kind of makes sense as I never know what to think about Kodak Black as an artist.
