The Black Crowes’ ‘Southern Harmony’ is Getting a Box Set Release

It will be released Dec. 1, 2023

The Black Crowes’ Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (their sophomore abum) is considered both by critics and the audience as probably their best. Now, the band has decided to give that album a super deluxe treatment through a box set that will be released on December 1, 2023.

As is usually the case, the set will include previously unreleased studio recordings, rare B-sides, and a live performance, this time around one from 1993  from Houston’s Sam Houston Coliseum.

The collection comes in a variety of formats, including 4-LP and three-CD box sets. In addition to the sonic ephemera, this new edition of Harmony will also contain a reproduction of the album’s original 132-page promotional hymnal containing the band’s insights about the album along with a set of photos taken during the recording sessions.

Originally released on May 12, 1992 via Def American Recordings, The Black Crowes’ Southern Harmony kept the band’s stateside hot streak going in light of the multi-platinum success of their auspicious 1990 debut Shake Your Moneymaker. It would quickly ascend to the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart and go on to sell over two million copies in America alone.
