A New Beach Boys Documentary is Coming to Disney+

There is a new documentary about The Beach Boys coming soon to streaming, simply titled Beach Boys, the film written by Mark Monroe and directed by Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny, will be available starting May 24, 2024, on Disney+.

As reported by a number of sources, citing the film’s synopsis, The Beach Boys is “a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionized pop music, and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come.”

The synopsis adds that the doc “traces the band from humble family beginnings and features never-before-seen footage and all-new interviews” with current members Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston, as well as former member David Marks.

Talking to GoodMorningAmerica.com, director Marshall said, “I grew up with the Beach Boys, whose songs and fantastic harmonies created the California dream. Their albums had a huge impact on the music world and I’ve always been fascinated about how all that came about.”

Also featured are late members Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson, as well as former member Blondie Chaplin. Others interviewed for the documentary include Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder, and Don Was.

The documentary’s soundtrack will be available to stream alongside the film’s premiere on May 24. Coinciding with the doc’s debut, the Beach Boys’ 1964 album Shut Down Vol. 2 will be released on limited edition blue-and-white marble vinyl on March 29. The group’s official book, The Beach Boys by the Beach Boys, will also release on April 2 via Genesis Publications.
