Band On The Run is considered as the best album Paul McCartney recorded with The Wings and one that often finds its place on the best rock albums of all-time lists.
Now, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its original release, McCartney is preparing a special deluxe edition that will be released on Groundhog Day – February 2, 2024.
The album will be presented in two different forms: One in Dolby Atmos, and the other stripped of the orchestral parts, something Paul McCartney is calling “underdubbed.”
“This is Band on the Run in a way you’ve never heard before,” ‘Paul McCartney says. “When you are making a song and putting on additional parts, like an extra guitar, that’s an overdub. Well, this version of the album is the opposite, underdubbed.”
The “Underdubbed” version is essentially the rough mixes cut by Geoff Emerick and his assistant Pete Swettenham at AIR Studios during the 1973 recording sessions for the album, presented in a different running order to parrot the original analog mix (and minus “Helen Wheels”).
