Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the same film is a tried and tested formula that has worked practically every time so far. The two renowned actors are in talks to work together again in a new Ridley Scott feature – a film about the famous Italian fashion mogul and businessman Maurizio Gucci.
While De Niro and Pacino are in talks, one main role has been confirmed. It’s Lady Gaga, who will play the role of Patricia Reggiani, Gucci’s ex-wife. As the British daily Independent notes, Gucci was assassinated on the steps of his office in 1995. The hit was orchestrated by Reggiani.
It is not yet known who either De Niro or Pacino would play, since, as Deadline reports, the other actors that might be involved in the project include Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jack Huston, and Reeve Carney.
Still, it is the possible participation of De Niro and Pacino that is drawing the most attention (Lady Gaga or no Lady Gaga), whose previous five joint collaborations on the screen (The Godfather Part II (1974), Heat (1995), Righteous Kill (2008), and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman (2019)) were all considered successful.
Gucci will be released by MGM and will begin production once Scott has finished work on his forthcoming historical drama, The Last Duel (also starring Driver).
The Gucci murder tale is scripted by Roberto Bentivegna, based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Ridley will produce the Gucci saga with Giannina Scott and Scott Free Productions as well as Kevin Walsh.
