Concert promoters Insomniac Events were probably taken aback when they recently put tickets on sale for the Day Trip Music Festival, which is to be held only in July of 2021. Their inaugural ticket sale had them sell out (tickets ranging in price from $39.99 to $69.99 plus fees) in 90 minutes. The company had to establish a waiting list for those fans that were able to grab any in that time frame.
Digital Music News is talking about the possibility that Insomniac might use the capital generated by such a strong ticket sale to bolster the festival’s lineup and/or even organize another similar festival in October of the same year.
Such plans might be right on track, because in August, before the Day Trip ticket sale, EDC Las Vegas 2021 sold out in less than a day. EDC is slated for late May 2021, preceded by Coachella which is to be held in April 2021, and Bonnaroo is supposed to precede Day Trip in June of the same year.
All this fits in with the recent quarterly earnings report from Live Nation, the biggest US concert organizer which predicts a full-scale return to traditional concerts and music festivals in 2021.
