Stoney is pure style over substance. Full of that "trill pop" sound he basically birthed, with mainly forgettable verses, but big, catchy hooks, and irresistible melodies. It's a solid debut that proves he's more than just "White Iverson."
Trip felt like Jhené Aiko's most fully realized project yet and a major improvement over her major debut. It was just nowhere near as psychedelic as it was implied or as I hoped for, and ended up being a pretty straightforward ride.
The Jonas Brothers are back...and they've had sex.
Troye Sivan came to The Anthem in D.C. with a stellar performance, with support from Leland and Kim Petras, the crowd was swooning all night long. Check out our full gallery of shots and be sure to catch him on tour.
Rising artist Nisa is thrilled to reveal her debut album's lead single “Smokescreen”, armed with indie punk hooks and dazzling pop flourishes.
Sonically and melodically The Wombat's latest album is a beautiful record who's bubbling upbeatness is infectious which creates an interesting dynamic between it's content full of heartbreak and a bad love. This may not be one of the deepest nor thought provoking rock albums I've heard in recent memory but it's certainly one of the most enjoyable. And sometimes that's what it's all about.
On her debut album, 'The Other Side Of Midnight', Venus Blake is able to successfully overcome all the possible traps inherent in dark, gothic pop and deliver something authentic.
I'm not saying The Decemberists come off as gimmicky or overtly "hipster" but I have no problem imagining many of the songs here being played at a local renaissance fair or in the soundtrack to one of Wes Anderson's latest movies, and not in an ironic way either. But for as much as I found myself eye rolling, I found myself singing along, which in itself is the ultimate goal of music isn't it.
Now in its sixth year, the indie-pop festival is held for two days every October and showcases more than just great music. It helps to promote the local vendors, artisans, and establishments in the developing Northeast D.C. neighborhood.
Sub-Radio’s sound wanders through bits of electronica, americana, funk/soul, all while firmly keeping planted in an infectious modern pop sound. Beyond ecstatic that they sold out this hometown finale, they put on a performance that tore the house down.
Whatever your opinion about Chris Brown and his music won't be swayed in either direction by Heartbreak on a Full Moon; at this point in his career he's a master at his craft and rarely makes a musical (keyword 'musical') misstep. This however, would have definitely been a case where less is more. I only made it about a quarter of the way through this monstrosity before my interest and attention began to wane.
There may not be as many instant bangers as one might expect, but 'Sweetener' is a completely realized project a full offering of everything she has to offer as a creative, not just a celebrity.
After Laughter was a surprising return from the traditionally pop leaning punk-rock band that not only managed to reinvent and reinvigorate their sound but has made me a fan in the process. Their 80's pop influenced sound combined with Hayley's still great vocals and punk musings made for an unexpectedly great combination.
Autogramm, synth-poppers, have just released their latest single, “Diana," continuing their tradition of crafting sing-along new wave anthems.
Synthesizers took the '80s by storm - changing the landscape of popular music and pop culture at large in the process. As musicians embraced the emerging technology, their own sound and style transformed into everything we remember the era for.
Pop meets hi-hop on Star2's latest single and video "Get Low For Me" feat. Belle Aire, a sensually sublime Valentine's Day anthem.
LA-based pop singer/songwriter Jordan Suaste, has just released his latest single "Love Who You Want To," and emotionally resonant ballad.
Loren Berí’s writerly whimsy mixed with Sea Glass’ adorning production resulted in this orchestral new single "Sonneteer."
Art pop musician EMEL has shared the new single + video “Lose My Mind (feat. Nayomi)”, a beguiling coalescence of hip-hop and indie pop.
UK singer Aimie Atkinson, normally known for her stage performances, has made her first foray into the world of pop music with the stunning single "Monster."
Tove Lo creates an interesting dichotomy on her latest album with it's glossy, pristine production and her unabashedly sexually depraved and devious lyrics. It's a softcore raunchiness with incredible grooves that I can't help but continue to revisit.
On 'The Perks of Being a Hypocrite,' Amsterdam's Cosmic Crooner proves he deserves his artistic moniker.
LA indie newcomers Polyglam have shared their third single of 2023 in “Loss,” a song about the cyclical nature of relationships.
There are a few moments here and there, and his one true country collab is the best song on the album ("Say Something"), but overall Man of the Woods is Justin Timberlake's worst project yet. He tried to blend the best of both worlds of pop and country but the result is something that doesn't do either particularly well.
