Recap of our live sit down with rising artist, Dáreece Walker. We discuss the thought process behind the series, some of the techniques used, the public response to the exhibition, the prescience of the series in relation to current events, and more.
The country is on fire with rage, and rightfully so, but we cannot end with only rage and social media postings. We must all do our part before this tears us apart. We'll be donating 50% of all our Black Fathers Matter merch proceeds to Reclaim the Block.
In our first show of the new decade we discuss the tragic passing of Kobe, the growing debate about Oprah, the Supreme x Tupac controversy, Big Sean finally addressing Kendrick Lamar, and our thoughts about the Grammys and Oscars.
Check out long time LLF cohort, Dareece Walker, in today's NY Times and check out his art featured every weekend this month at the Governors Island Art Fair along with a host of other great artists.
We have returned with the next episode of The Fearless Show and on this episode we give our reactions to this year's Oscars and we see who picked the most winners. We also talk about new shows and films we've been watching, in particular Marvel and Netflix's latest, Iron Fist. Then we close things out by discussing Dareece's recent exhibit opening in our hometown of Colorado Springs and any upcoming art shows he plans on checking out.
Our collection of photos from opening night of Floyd Tunson and Dáreece Walker's brand new exhibition Force/Resistance at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.
In the post, "Art Work", I introduced myself as an artist and talked about what Art is to me, then I talked about being chosen for two Art exhibits and showed you the Paintings that were displayed. The work shown last time was a collection of paintings that didn't necessarily relate to each other; This time I'm displaying a specific body of work that was developed to be more cohesive by using similar content, materials, and formal elements...
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and so today I decided to write about what that means to me. MLK Day marks the celebration of a man who dedicated his life to making others lives better. The battles he fought, and the non-violent manner in which he fought them changed America forever and gave people hope all around the world.
I never had a chance to hear/see Dr. King speak, and though he died many years before my birth I cannot deny that my life is significantly better because of what Dr. King did in his life...
Leftmore is the "band" name of singer/songwriter, Joe Ziegler, from Broomfield, CO. Wielding nothing more than an acoustic guitar and a pair of vocal chords named Rock and Roll, Joe travels the country far and wide to play shows just about anywhere. Independently booking tours since June 2008, Leftmore has carved out an intimate niche in the songwriting world...
First of all, shout out to all of you living.life.fearless!!! We thank you for the growing support and we look forward to hearing more of your stories, so that we might be able to share those experiences with the #LLF community, to relate to, share, and learn more about ourselves and each other. =)
Now back to the main event! Our first Artist Spotlight!
Introducing
Ceramic Artist and Assistant Professor at Doane College: Eric Stearns...
Hey all! Its me again, Artist D. Walker and I'm here bringing you one more of my original poems. (Don't worry, it wont be my poetry every time.)
So I'm currently in the process of writing several poems for my Contemporary Art class.
I think they are coming out pretty well so I thought I might share with you some of what I've come up with so far.
After you read the poem, please take a few moments to leave me some feedback.
Write a comment on how it made you feel, or what things you can relate to in the writing etc.(this goes for all the posts on our site).
I love to get feedback and responses because it helps me grow, so whether you like or dislike it please tell me whats on your mind( why you like it or dislike it, and what it's doing for you). This is a community so sharing is very important and the fact that you visited the site means you are important to me (and the LLF Team)...
I started this blog about a month ago now and to be honest it was mainly for a class I had to take. I had no idea what to talk about, all I knew is I didn't want it to be about sports since I talk about that all the time and I didn't want it to be just about me. If I was going to do a blog I wanted it to be one where I could possibly help others and share my own experiences with chasing dreams, since we all do. This is what came out and to say things have gone well would be a gross understatement. Things here have progressed faster than I could have ever imagined and the site keeps expanding every week; the feedback from others has been great, the community has been growing rapidly, and I've connected with a number of great people. With that said we are planning some major updates to the site in the very near future and even bigger ones down the line. The first of these updates will be the creation of a logo to represent the site and everyone involved. I just wanted to throw a quick teaser up of some of the logos we've come up with along with a quick video showing the co-poster Dareece Walker drawing them up...
Check out our wide-ranging talk with select artists about the current events and conversations being had around the country (and the world) and all things protest/political art.
We're back talking about the latest happenings including Tekashi 6ix9ine's predictable return, Joe Rogan's Spotify deal, our thoughts on 'The Last Dance', the release of our first digital art exhibition: 'Black Fathers Matter', and more.
Dáreece Walker talks about who inspired him to explore his creativity, the generational implications of him doing well, and wanting to inspire others to be more open-minded and less insecure.
In this first video for our new IMPACT series, artist Dareece Walker talks about the painting that's had the most impact on him and his work.
Dáreece Walker is a rising artist out in New York City by way of Colorado and he sat down with us to talk about how he got his start in music, who inspires him, and why he chose the highly distinctive materials of charcoal and cardboard for a lot of his work. He also discusses the impact New York has had on his work, what drew him to "protest" art, and upcoming shows he has in the works.
It has been quite some time since the last Blog or VLOG that I have posted……but I’m back in action,...
Welcome to living.life.fearless! and the first Video blog !!!. We have been wanting to make videos for site for a while now and Im excited to say that we have made our first video.
In this video , I (Artist Dareece Walker) have decided to create a painting Celebrating the work of Don Cornelius and "Soul Train". In the future, I will plan on discussing more information and answering questions on the video but for this video I just wanted you all to enjoy the painting =)
Though I didn't get to grow up with "Soul Train", Its impact on pop culture and my own life indirectly, is undeniable and well worth recognition...
This time on Poetry Corner I chose to share with you a very influential poem to me, written by one of my personal all-time favorite poets, Langston Hughes. Written over 60 years ago, I feel this poem is still very relevant to today. America is and has always been in a state of change; it is up to us as the people (We are America) to make change..."To Make America" The poem may seem slightly long but each word is important so please enjoy the read...
Like many other people in the world, I have a tendency to be Lazy.
...or is that just me?
For those of us who do tend to be Lazy, getting out of this habit can be hard, and has proven on more than one occasion to cause more problems than solutions. Some would argue that there is no reason for being lazy at all, but I beg to differ. There may not be good reasons for laziness but there are definitely reasons. I've noticed that I think too hard about a situations level of convenience and/or uncertainty of something new, so even if I know I have to do it I still wait...
Being an artist is tough, but so is anything when your self-employed. I'm not saying I survive on my Artwork alone, I'm saying my goal is to be able to survive on my Artwork alone.
As an Artist, I'm always on the job. I don't wake up and put on my Artist uniform and then go to work, my minds constantly working on improvements and new ideas for art. Even if I'm working at a retail store I'd still be working 2 jobs at the same time.
But calling art my job is a bit misleading. You can quit a job, or change a career, but I am inclined to make art forever. You could say I've discovered my destiny. Its been interesting getting to this point in my development but I've loved every moment...
Pressure to be the best.
Ever feel like there's too much pressure or competition, or that you're not good enough for something? Like you have to be the best? I've been feeling that way lately....Like theres too much stacked up against me.
Then I realized it was all just in my head...
Welcome back to living. life. fearless! and to the first of many posts in Poetry Corner. In my intro post (...Platform 9 and three-quarters) I mentioned that among art, video and music, I would also be sharing poetry. Poetry is a form of literary art where language is used for it aesthetic qualities(emotional tone). My perspective is that poetry can be insightful but also fun; when i write i try to puzzle piece feelings, words, and my ideas together until i feel confident in the result. This is an original poem that I wrote this past week that i titled " Lessons Learned"; I will be posting both my original poems and work by other poets, both amateur and professional. This poem represents how I have been feeling about life, and the things I feel I've come to understand about it...
