The first in line is Miles Davis’ one of the most celebrated jazz records ever, Birth Of The Cool is getting a reissue in honor of his centennial. The new edition is the latest in a series of celebrations of the legendary trumpeter’s centennial, which include tributes from Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland Jazz; a SFJAZZ Gala celebrating both Davis and John Coltrane; and a forthcoming biopic, Miles & Juliette, which will star F1’s Damson Idris as the musician.
The new Birth Of The Cool reissue will arrive through Blue Note Records’ Tone Poet Vinyl Series, led by “Tone Poet” himself Joe Harley and mastered from original analog phono reel master tapes by Kevin Grey. Birth Of The Cool is Davis’ first entry in the series—other jazz age luminaries featured in the collection include Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter, Hank Mobley, Stanley Turrentine, and Chick Corea. The exact release date is not been announced yet.
The second jazz masterpiece set for reissue is John Coltrane’s Impressions, originally released on the Impulse! label. Along with this reissue, later in 2026, there will also be a concert tour featuring renowned jazz artists like Joe Lovano, Melissa Aldana, and others.
Recorded between 1961 and 1963 and released on Impulse! Records in July 1963, Impressions documents John Coltrane’s classic quartet with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones. Those sessions will once again get a release via the Verve Acoustic Sounds Series later this year.
The Verve / Acoustic Sounds Series presents all-analog 180-gram vinyl reissues of essential albums from the Verve and Impulse! catalogs. Mastered from the original analog tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings (QRP) in Kansas, each release pairs top-tier audio fidelity with meticulously reproduced tip-on jackets, offering faithful recreations of the original LPs for discerning listeners.
