A!MS, the multi-hyphenate rapper, producer, and entrepreneur, has delivered the perfect capstone to one of the hottest Summers in recent memory, with his blazing new track “Don’t Die.“
Perfectly blending together elements of hip-hop, afrobeat, and R&B, “Don’t Die” simultaneously brings the vibes and lights a fire of inspiration. Brining UK-artist Dappy alongside him, A!MS delivered a celebration of the people, memories, and legacy that will long endure after the years have passed.
We suspect its earworm hook, “you know that the real don’t die”, will likewise endure long after the first play, as a strong call to live a life worth remembering. The accompanying globetrotting video perfectly encapsulates the universality of the song and its message.
In his own words, A!MS breaks down the ideas, connections and creative decisions behind “Don’t Die.”
What Unlocked the Song
The idea at the heart of “Don’t Die” is that something real can outlive the moment you create it. Music can do that, and so can the relationships you build and what you leave behind. There’s also this incredible connection with the “Don’t Die” mural Chris Brown painted in Cyprus in 2015. We rediscovered it after we’d finished the song, which gave those words another layer of meaning.

What it Means when the “Real Don’t Die”
For me, it means what’s genuine stays with people. A sound can take you straight back to a person or a moment years later. The same goes for loyalty, friendship and the things you build together. That’s the legacy I’m talking about: having an impact that carries on through other people. “The real don’t die” puts that feeling into one line.
The British Mediterranean Connection
Dappy has a voice you recognize immediately, and he brings real emotion into his melodies. That adds another dimension to the energy I bring to the record. With a message like this, the delivery matters—you want people to feel those words and sing them back. We also share British and Mediterranean roots, so there’s a connection there that makes sense within the world of my music.
The Weight of the Message
“Don’t Die” carries a big statement in its title, so the challenge is making the music live up to it. There’s an emotional weight to the message, but the record also needs energy and movement. That balance fits what I’m building with Global Street: bringing different influences together and giving the song room to express more than one feeling.
Balancing Emotional Weight with Energy
Resilience, but with a sense of celebration. That feeling of still being here, still moving forward and having people beside you who understand the journey. I wanted the record to give you energy while leaving you with something to think about. You can enjoy it in the moment, then come back to the words and find something that means more to you.
