Metallica are Reissuing Their Iconic ‘Load’ Album as a Massive Deluxe Box Set

Metallica’s Load album was a huge success for the band, as it has reached the platinum status five times so far, and that score just might get higher, as a massive new deluxe box set hits the streets on June 13, 2025, via their own label Blackened Recordings. Visit here to pre-order.

Those who pre-order the deluxe box version of the album will receive early access to new versions of the hit single “Until It Sleeps.” These include the aforementioned remastered edition, as well as a Herman Melville Mix of the song, a live version recorded in 1996 Live at Slim’s in San Francisco, and a Rough Chorus Vocal Idea Mix called “F.O.B.D.”

The reissue of the band’s sixth album was remastered by Reuben Cohen, with Greg Fidelman overseeing, and will also be available as a 180g 2xLP release, as well as on CD, cassette and digitally. Those pre-ordering different variants of the reissue will have access to different versions of songs on the tracklist early. The 2xLP, 3xCD expanded and deluxe digital versions, for instance will, for the first time feature the extended version of “The Outlaw Torn.” This was originally edited for release due to the time constraints of the CD format.

Other special features in the 2025 limited edition deluxe box set include previously unreleased demos, rough mixes, live performances, on-air and television appearances, and much more – all from the 1995-97 era. You can find out more about the different variations of the album here.

The box set also includes a ‘Mama Said’ picture disc, patches, posters, guitar picks, lyric sheets, a deluxe 128-page book, and Loadapalooza ’96 – a 140g triple album recorded live during Metallica’s Lollapalooza headline show at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre on August 4, 1996.

In total, Metallica’s Load deluxe box set comes with 301 total tracks (245 unreleased) and weighs over ten pounds.
