Americana Soul Singer R.O. Shapiro Returns with Feel-Good New Single “I Just Wanna Dance With You”

A feel-good single about wanting to be with the one you love

Independent Americana Soul singer/songwriter R.O. Shapiro is back with his 2nd single, “I Just Wanna Dance With You,” a feel-good single about wanting to be with the one you love.

It comes off his upcoming The Worthy EP, a stunning collection of love songs that celebrates every facet of love—romantic love, love for community, and the ever-important journey of self-love, arriving February 7th.

In January of 2020, the traveling musician moved from Austin, TX to San Diego, CA to live with his longtime partner, their first time living together. Then the world shut down, and they were really living together. During that strange and novel period, with ample time for self-reflection and sweet intimacy, the germs of these love songs were born. In April of 2021, our traveler took space at a residency in the hilltop Walkerville neighborhood of a snowy Butte, MT to fully write the songs out. He took them on the road with him soon after, once the ropes were lifted high enough to sneak out, honing the performance and smoothing out the lyrical edges in front of supportive crowds. During his wandering he kept his heart open to different recording situations, looking for safe and beautiful places to capture these tunes for posterity, and trustworthy collaborators whose craft he admired. The Worthy EP is composed of two such scenarios.

The first was in August 2023 in Durham, NM, represented on Side A with “I Just Wanna Dance WIth You” and “Worthy.” For these songs R.O. had the opportunity to work with producer and personal idol Phil Cook, a longtime collaborator of Bon Iver and Hiss Golden Messenger, and monster solo artist in his own right. The session was inflected by hot heavy days, ice cream, river dips, minor league baseball, and power outages. The tracks have a Southern drawl, drenched in Phil’s unmistakeable banjo and slide guitar playing, and infused with the cutting fiddle of Durham’s own Riley Calcagno (Viv & Riley).
