The king of bedroom pop Verzache returns with his undeniable new single, “Good guy,” off his just released third studio album Hypocrite.
On the surface, “Good guy” sparkles with sunny hooks and irresistible energy. But beneath the brightness lies a painfully honest confession. Verzache explains: “Writing ‘Good guy’ just felt like talking out loud. And it came together so quickly. It makes me laugh that something I made when I was in such a dark place sounds so bright and upbeat. But it’s painfully honest and if nobody relates to this I’m gonna feel really dumb!”
The single reflects the push and pull at the heart of Hypocrite, a record Verzache calls his most vulnerable and daring yet.
Over the past several years, Verzache has carved out a singular path in modern pop, moving fluidly between his SoundCloud-era DIY beginnings and major industry co-signs. Along the way, he’s produced and co-written with Mac Miller and Young Thug, nearly sold out a nationwide U.S. tour, and amassed nearly 1 billion global streams. Now, at just 27, he arrives at a coming-of-age moment—reflecting on growth, regret, and renewal while ushering in a new creative era.
“This album took an unnecessarily long time to finish – and honestly, it’s hypocritical of me to ever get annoyed at my favorite artists for taking too long,” Verzache shares. “I always think I’m a certain type of person until I’m confronted with any sort of adversity – then I become the exact opposite of whatever I thought I was (which is so great… it’s not).”
That candid self-reflection threads through the entire record.
