TYGERMYLK (they/them) revealed the title track “Local Girl, Always Tired” off their just released debut album.
“Local Girl, Always Tired” pulls from their experiences of moving back to their hometown during the pandemic. Small towns can mean close knit community and support, but they can also lack diversity and representation.
Being in a town that doesn’t align with who you are can create a wealth of challenges.
Sharing more, Tygermylk explained; ‘Just before the first lockdown, I had a breakdown. I was completely burnt out and had to leave London. I moved back in with my parents. Then the pandemic hit, and I found myself grappling with a covid-induced relapse of the chronic illness (ME/CFS & POTS) I’d been dealing with since my teenage years. I’d been badly bullied when I was younger and never had many friends, and suddenly in 2020 I was back in the same place that had been the source of so much trauma.
The song is about that feeling: being stuck in a small town that doesn’t fundamentally align with who you are, dreaming of a bigger life, aching to escape.’
Ten years in the making, Tygermylks debut record Local Girl, Always Tired takes shape as a powerful coming of age record. Shaped by their life experiences from love, loss, grief and resilience, to their tireless advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and disability inclusion, the record represents all things that have come to shape Tygermylk to be the person they are today.
Enlisting poetic and witty lyricism, dreamy vocals, infectious melodies and bountiful indie pop earworms, their first full length record looks to be a significant milestone in the independent artists rise.
The title Local Girl, Always Tired came from a chance moment of inspiration. ‘The idea came from overhearing a job interview in a hotel foyer in Manchester. This girl was asked, “If you ever made the headlines, what would your headline be?” She sighed: “Oh, I don’t know… Local Girl, Always Tired.” Tygermylk shared.
