LA/Portland rock band The Dumes have shared their window-rattling garage rock anthem “Boring,” available to stream now on all DSPs worldwide. The track channels indie/alternative greats like Fontaines DC and Mannequin Pussy, and is about refusing to change yourself to please someone.
“‘Boring’ is about trying to remember the good parts of a toxic relationship as it comes to its inevitable end,” says The Dumes. “Giving your all to prove yourself worthy in any relationship is “Boring” and you deserve better.”
The Dumes are coming off a packed week in Austin at SXSW, where they shared the stage with iconic legends like Ginuwine and Everclear across four official showcases.
The Dumes’ sound developed as a reaction to the increasingly strange, toxic and cyclical world around them. Frustration and aggression give way to a lighter antagonistic attitude from song to song or even section to section. The Dumes recorded their debut EP with Joe Chicarelli (The Shins, My Morning Jacket, Morissey) at Sunset Sound and worked up their latest material with Rob Schnapf (Kurt Vile, Elliot Smith, Beck) at MANT. After immersing themselves in the LA scene for years, they’ve found a new home in Portland, Oregon. Since the band launched, they’ve shared the stage with artists like The Warning, Sheryl Crow, Peter Frampton, Sammy Hagar and Louise Post of Veruca Salt, among others.
When she’s not performing live or recording, vocalist & band founder Elodie Tomlinson owns & runs her Portland music school for kids & teens, Chords. Guitarist Pete Recine also owns The Market Recording in Echo Park (Los Angeles), where he works as a session player and composer for film and TV as well as producing local indie artists.
