Arkansas native indie folk balladeer Drew Pulliam shares the newest single “Roses” from his upcoming new album, Back of My Mind. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter’s project will be out September 12 via producer Steve Azar’s Mississippi-based Ride Records.
“Roses” is a raw and reflective track born in the aftermath of a significant breakup, written in the emotional wake of heartache. Pulliam explains, “The song explores the complex space between vulnerability and resilience — the moments when we open up, only to find that connection still feels just out of reach. I’m aiming to express the yearning for a relationship that might not work out, and the bittersweet way memories persist—captured in the smallest details, like the roses on a bedsheet.” He continues, “At its core, the song is about the loneliness that can still exist even when you’re surrounded by people, and the way art becomes a way to say what can’t always be shared out loud.”
Building on his 2023 debut EP 16 Going on 60, Drew’s new album marks a turning point in his artistic evolution. It marks a quiet but confident shift, a sharpened sense of identity and sound with Drew playing nearly every instrument on the album himself.
Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas and home-schooled until high school in a large church-going Christian household, Drew traces his musical roots to performing piano and guitar on a home stage under the guidance of his mother, the head of a thriving local community theatre.
With a debut for the ages in Back of My Mind, Drew Pulliam is about to make his mark on the music scene as a triple threat – singer, songwriter and instrumentalist. Pulliam said, “I feel like this album is finally approaching what I hear as my sound. I just hope I’m on the right path because it’s the only one I know.”
