Choctaw singer-songwriter Samantha Crain has released her new single “Dart”, alongside the announcement of her 7th full-length record Gumshoe. “Dart” marks her third offering so far from the record.
A dreamy folk song as much as it is a gateway into the essence of Gumshoe, “Dart” waltzes with delicately-plucked guitars and lyrics that vividly articulate the early stages of lovesickness; when our mind fills in the unknown blanks of someone we’re falling for, and projects the person we long for them to really be.
Gumshoe is her first original solo release since 2021’s I Guess We Live Here Now EP. Arriving May 2, 2025 via Real Kind Records, the Americana-spritzed project encases 11 songs of burgeoning curiosity and desire for symbiotic community.
At its core, Gumshoe is a record about reciprocity; a deconstruction of the false premonition that Crain was destined to always be an outsider. A lone wolf for most of her life, the singer and guitarist had, until recently, spent the majority of her life by her own solitary terms, dependent on nobody but herself and expecting no dependence in return. But over the past few years, Samantha’s experiences helping her partner navigate their addiction, immersing herself within her community while working at a wildcare rescue and a liquor store, and discovering how to love and be loved, have realized the idea that devoting your emotional energy to others is an investment that pays for itself.
