Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Alex Bloom released his newest single “Morning” off his third studio album Across the Country, out September 12. The sun-kissed and lovelorn track is rooted in the early days of Bloom’s relationship, when he and his now-wife moved in together just two months into their relationship in Brooklyn.
“Morning” glows with warmth and vulnerability, as Bloom’s tender vocals drift over a backdrop of acoustic guitar, percussion, and soft piano, anchored by the recurring, love-soaked refrain: “I wanna be yours / you wanna be mine.” Longtime friends Brendan McCusker (drums), Jake Noveck (guitar), and Brian Jones (bass) join Bloom on the track, lending a subtle, steady hand to the arrangement.
“Morning is about an all consuming new love,” Bloom says. “When you can’t stop thinking about someone, and every interaction with them feels exciting and full of wonder. If a relationship is a day, ‘Morning’ represents the morning of that day.” He continues, “The song takes us through a full day and night of that new relationship, and when the couple goes to sleep, they feel their new love growing deeper and deeper. That depth is juxtaposed with the playfulness of waking up in bed together. This new love is a filter over everything in your life, you can’t imagine how you existed before without this person, and you want to spend all of your time around them. I’d say the main feelings of this song are excited young love, bouncy and playful, with a bed of deep emotion under all of it.”
