Roofer By Day, Breakout Star By Night: Billy Reekie Debuts Radiant Single “Song That I Sing”

Billy Reekie has always sought connection – and now it looks as though he’s finally found it, his radiant new single “Song That I Sing” is his breakout moment, a beautiful release that cements his reputation as one of the UK’s finest young voices.

Still only 26-years-old, his path hasn’t been straight forward. A roofer from Fife who works daily with his dad, this working class voice learned piano sitting beside his grandmother Helen as a child.

Playing shows locally, he entered Little Mix: The Search back in 2019 (he gained four immediate “yes” votes, if you’re wondering) before returning to Scotland, honing his skills, and sharpening his ambitions. Now he’s ready. Growing up in Kirkaldy, this small-town boy has big plans.

“Song That I Sing” is bold and emotive, opening with tender notes before surging to that crushing, instantly infectious chorus.

A gripping song with crushing emotional resonance, the lyrics move from loss – “I can’t sleep without you” – to re-affirmation, with Billy singing: “You are my everything / you are the melody…”

Worth comparing to James Arthur, Tom Grennan and – yes – fellow Scottish artist Lewis Capaldi, this is an incredible step forward.

Discussing the single, he shares: “I’d say, it’s your typical feeling-sorry-for-yourself ballad, it’s about being heartbroken cos the other person realised they can do better and your promise of doing whatever they asked couldn’t stop the ship from sinking, so they got off while you stayed on. What makes the sinking part less miserable is the guitars, so hopefully one can enjoy those as they listen to me singing about it all going to shit.”
