Rising Alt-Pop Artist Zach Templar Returns with New Single “Desire”

About the desire to be innocent and young again

Swiftly following the debut of his single “Give Me Your Heart” a few weeks back, Zach Templar has returned with “desire” today. Marking his second song release this month, the UK-Colombian artist’s new R&B-tinted track is a depiction of him speaking to his younger self.

“It’s a song about the desire to be innocent and young again, about the struggles of fighting who I am and what I want to be,” says Zach. “There are things I do now that my younger self would have never done and probably would be sad to see. As the song progresses during the chord switch at the end, I fight this feeling and accept that these downs and ups just come with life. Innocence inevitably becomes tarnished, and it’s something I wish my younger self could understand too.”

Both “Give Me Your Heart” and “desire” developed a cult following over the past few months since Zach first started teasing the tracks online. Fresh off of a dazzling year – one in which he rose into one of the most promising young voices in the lo-fi pop scene simply from the laptop in his bedroom in Somerset, UK – the budding singer-songwriter has wasted no time to begin 2025 as he readies his forthcoming debut EP.

“desire” follows “changes” and “roses”, Zach’s gauzy pair of singles which he released just before his first-ever North American tour this past autumn. Despite it being his first time stepping foot in the US and Canada, the debut run saw every show packed wall-to-wall with fervent fans, and his Los Angeles show was moved to larger venue months in advance to match demand.

Suffice it to say, the past year has been a blur for Zach. Writing, recording, and producing all of his songs independently to-date, the self-taught musician’s ascent first sparked with ‘missin something’ – his viral 2023 track that’s eclipsed 100 million streams on Spotify alone. It’s a track that first introduced his lo-fi pop sound, pastel-tinted guitar work & production chops, and coming-of-age lyricism to the masses.
