Progressive Post-Hardcore Band Mella Have Shared New Single “Proactively Disappointing a Parent (Hentai)”

Progressive post-hardcore band Mella has released their new single “Proactively Disappointing a Parent (Hentai)”, a blunt admission from someone who genuinely despises those they choose to surround themselves with. Eerie and playful then shifting to brutal and violent, this inviting-yet-murderous piece explores someone completely surrendering to their most hateful, manipulative tendencies due to a combination of paranoia and real world experiences.

The new single comes along with the announcement of their new album Or So I’ve Been Told…, out Friday, October, 10 vis legendary independent New York rock label Equal Vision Records.

With roots in raw emotion and an ear for detail, the members of Mella — Danny Ray McCool Jr. (vocals), James Lucas Artwohl (bass, keys), Donnie Maynard Clark (guitar, recording engineer) and Luke Martucci (drums) — blend intricate instrumentation, dynamic shifts, and lyrical vulnerability to create something that hits hard and lingers longer. Their sound pulls from the intensity of post-hardcore, the introspection of emo, and the unpredictability of progressive structures, without ever losing sight of the song itself. Whether on stage or in the studio, Mella doesn’t aim to relive a scene; they’re building something new from the bones of what moved them in the first place.
