Parisian Multi-Hyphenate Crayon Returns with Stirring New Single “Cristaux Liquides”

Paris-based producer, songwriter, and visual artist Crayon unveils his new single “Cristaux Liquides”, off his long-awaited debut album Home Safe, out now via Erased Tapes.

A cover of Feu! Chatterton, the track reimagines the band’s reflections on a society consumed by screens through a more intimate lens. “The original explores what’s left of our roots and humanity in an era where we’ve almost become androids,” Crayon explains. “With Swing, we revisited the line ‘caressing your face through my tactile screen’ in a more literal sense, scrolling through someone’s profile right after a breakup.”

“Cristaux Liquides” follows earlier singles “Home Safe” featuring Yamê and JPL (Tora), “Diamond Miner” with ELIZA and FKJ, and “Kill Your Idols” with Lossapardo, each sketching out the album’s fluid palette of soul, folk, jazz, hip-hop, and electronic textures.

A fixture of the Paris music scene and a sought-after producer for artists like Josman, Dinos, and Prince Waly, Crayon steps fully into the spotlight with Home Safe. The record is rooted in a period of communal creativity, when Crayon and pianist Bastien Brison hosted Sunday jam sessions in their shared Paris apartment with musicians, dancers, and visual artists. Later, Crayon retreated to his childhood home on the outskirts of Paris, shaping the album’s warm, orchestral-meets-bedroom sound over three years of reflection.

Home Safe is as visual as it is musical. Working with creative director and choreographer Sulian Rios, Crayon uses surreal papier-mâché masks — nodding to 1970s New York avant-garde — to appear on camera while sidestepping the spotlight, continuing his practice of blending sound and image into a single language. The live session for Cristaux Liquides, directed by Alexandra Waespi, extends that vision further, presenting the music in an intimate yet cinematic light.

With contributions from anaiis, Rhye, ELIZA, Yamê, Arthur Teboul (Feu! Chatterton), JPL, and Lossapardo, the album circles a central question: What does home mean to you? With Cristaux Liquides and its evocative live session, Crayon opens another window into that world.
