New York rock band MX LONELY are excited to join the roster of tastemaking Philly label Julia’s War Recordings with the announcement of their debut album and first single “Big Hips.” A record full of snarling confessions, ruminating guitars, and heavy hooks, ALL MONSTERS arrives everywhere FEBRUARY 20, 2026. “Big Hips” reflects on the gender dysphoria of trans adolescence, trudging through angst-filled riffs and endlessly catchy lyrics.
“‘Big Hips’ is a self-mocking celebration of youthful masculinity. Puberty imbues a sense of dread for everyone, but especially trans people,” explains synthesist/vocalist Rae Haas. “For me, the onset of feminine curves was met with a sort of voyeurism I didn’t feel I was made to be proud of. ‘Big hips’ were something that happened to you rather than something you owned. The song recontextualizes the dysphoria of my youth in the way young boys would jovially proclaim the size of their phalluses (whether it was true or not). It’s a big dick joke.”
The official music video for “Big Hips” features the band performing the lead single in a school, highlighting their explosive live presence and inspiring memories of puberty. Directed and edited by Owen Lehman, the video captures MX LONELY’s ability to turn inner demons and the mundane into tightly wound, cathartic rock songs.
In MX LONELY’s world, monsters are multifaceted things. They’re the creatures we used to imagine lurking in the shadows as children; the all-too-real evildoers who abuse their power or line their pockets with suffering; the vices and flaws that we grapple with throughout our lives, and what we can become while under their grip. Even the band’s name comes from synthesist/vocalist Rae Haas’ nickname for a shadowy figure that would haunt them during sleep paralysis. On their debut full-length album ALL MONSTERS, the Brooklyn-based band search dark corners, force open doors and exhume these monsters, via a heavy, murky alt-rock sound that’s equally streaked with beauty.
