A new huge set of Bob Dylan memorabilia of over 70 lots is set to be auctioned off by RR Auction. The bidding has already started and will be concluded on March 12, 2025.
The key find here just might be Dylan’s earliest known demo recording, captured live at New York’s Gaslight Café in 1961.
As the auctioneers press release notes, “Terri Thal, Dylan’s first manager, was instrumental in producing this pivotal tape on an Ampex reel-to-reel machine, originally intended to showcase Dylan’s burgeoning talent to nightclub managers. Despite some initial resistance, the tape has preserved a crucial moment in music history. Steve Addabbo of Shelter Island Sound, who handled the digital transfer, notes the recording’s exceptional clarity.”
The auction also features other remarkable items from Dylan’s career, including a 1975 Martin D-41 acoustic guitar, personally gifted to his Rolling Thunder Revue collaborator Bob Neuwirth, and a stage-worn ‘Nudie’ suit from the ‘Night of the Hurricane II’ benefit concert. Proceeds from Neuwirth’s collection will help fund a documentary exploring his integral role in the music scene, as described by music historian Greil Marcus: “a fulcrum turning the ideas and actions of those around him.”
You can still put your bid for some sweet Bob Dylan memorabilia here.
