Manchester Psych-Punks, Pomona, Share Multicolored Single “Double Yellows”

Cross-country new wave indie five-piece, Pomona build on a reputation lit by live fervor and multicolor mood, intense joy-punk by announcing their debut EP with the release of new single, “Double Yellows.”

A song that the band says is “about the quiet frustration of unacknowledged effort”Double Yellows follows leak-released EP tracer flare, “Saga,” released in May, a riff-led rattle through barely two-and-a-half-minutes of reckless, knee-knocking gonzo new wave-ish punk. Calling it whatever the listener wants, Pomona’s break from the performative angst of post-punk peers and lacing melody through bug-eyed buzzsaw indie rock has set Pied Piper amongst their adopted city’s rats, drawing in sold out crowds to two headline shows at YES.

Forming in 2023 and clambering to their feet through 2024, Pomona’s formation, of members gathered from around the UK, took place through Facebook groups and guitar pedal exchanges. Agenda-free aside from the agenda of raising music that shared the exhilaration of finding their own musical fountainheads, whether Radiohead and Idles or deeper-underground punk and niche space-rock, the collective energy of the band is directed wholly towards the pulse-racing exhilaration of hearing the flames of their own creativity kindle.

Joe Boxall, lead singer, says of Double Yellows:

“At its core, ‘Double Yellows’ is about unreciprocated effort: raising your voice and hearing no sound back, staking your claim and realising no one’s listening. The track paints a picture of someone trapped in a loop of persistence, trying, failing, rebuilding, while carrying the weight of unacknowledged sacrifice. There’s a quiet defiance in that cycle, though. The repeated line “I want to make you proud” isn’t just desperate, it’s resilient.”
