In a dramatic legal escalation, Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins have filed a $10 million lawsuit against lead singer Perry Farrell. The suit follows a violent incident during their 2024 reunion tour, which abruptly ended after Farrell allegedly punched Navarro during a Boston concert, leading to the cancellation of the tour and a planned album release. The lawsuit includes allegations of assault, emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.
In response, Farrell and his wife, Etty Lau Farrell, have filed a separate lawsuit accusing Navarro, Avery, and Perkins of a years-long bullying campaign. His complaint claims concert sabotage—such as playing at high volume to drown out his vocals—and asserts the other members unilaterally canceled tour dates without his approval, breaching contractual obligations.
The Boston Incident That Set It All Off
The confrontation occurred on September 13, 2024, at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston. Video footage shows Farrell turning on Navarro mid-song, delivering a punch to the guitarist’s face. The altercation reportedly continued backstage. Shortly afterward, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins announced the tour’s cancellation, citing concern for safety and Farrell’s behavior.
Farrell later issued a public apology, calling his actions “inexcusable” and citing mounting frustration from dealing with medical issues like tinnitus and onstage sound problems. His wife attributed his behavior to intense loudness and audience complaints.
Navarro, Avery, and Perkins assert that Farrell’s actions cost them over $10 million in lost revenue from canceled dates and a shelved album. Navarro reportedly postponed his wedding, lost deposits, and ended disability payments tied to COVID recovery.
Farrell claims the band defamed him by framing him as mentally unstable—a scapegoat for the cancellation—and that being excluded from the decision destroyed his reputation and inflicted emotional and financial harm.
End of Jane’s Addiction
This legal confrontation marks what appears to be an irreversible breakup. Navarro previously dismissed the possibility of a future reunion. Despite the band having teased new recordings earlier in 2025, the lawsuits make clear the band cannot currently continue as a functioning unit.
