Indie Rockers The Moss Mark their Return with the Radiant New Single “Darkness”

Rising indie rock outfit The Moss return after a year’s silence with their luminous new single “Darkness,” released via S-Curve Records. The track heralds a bold new chapter for the band, blending introspective lyrics with their trademark radiant sound—an emotional tightrope that’s as sonically inviting as it is thematically complex.

Lead vocalist Tyke James explains, “‘Darkness’ is written as this cyclical thought, of caring deeply about someone, but needing space from them to sort out your own emotions.” It’s a line that succinctly captures the song’s resonant tension between intimacy and individual emotional space.

Despite its title, “Darkness” radiates warmth and melodic pull, vibrant indie rock with layers of groove-infused rhythms, layered vocals, and textured instrumentation that ebb and flow seamlessly.

Originating on the shores of Oahu as teenage buddies, Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) traded in beaches for the Great Salt Lake joining forces with Willie Fowler (drums) Caiden Jackson (bass) to form The Moss. As the group’s principal songwriter, Tyke channels his own personal experiences and passions into The Moss’ radiant and deceptively sunny tunes—their unique version of organic indie rock draws from artists like Pinegrove and Kevin Morby for sonic inspiration. The band’s insightful songs and memorable live shows have earned The Moss acclaim across the music world.
