Indie Rock Duo Joyer Are Back with Wistful New Single “At The Movies”

East Coast indie rock duo Joyer, the project of brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, are back with their single “At The Movies”, off their album On The Other End of the Line… The release comes alongside an official music video video animated by Sabrina Nichols (Shep Treasure), who also contributed new vocals to the new record. A sprawling, shimmering track, “At The Movies” soundtracks a fuzzy vision of sauntering animals as Joyer finds solace in the cinema

“At the time I was writing this song, I was thinking a lot about how going to the movies can be such a great distraction from any problems I’m having,” Shane Sullivan explains. “Movies have always been something really important to both of us and something we definitely bonded on at an early age. I think it inspires and informs a lot of our music-making and can be a comforting break from being burnt out from music or other areas of my life.”

On The Other End of the Line… was recorded at Palisade Studios in Chicago and produced by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr. “Cure” heralded the announcement of the upcoming LP, which name-dropped the record’s title across twinkling and twangy guitars, expressing curiosity and compassion for the tiny moments that bind the world together. An official music video for “Cure” accompanied the track’s release, immersing its viewers in a hazy, yellow-tinted New York City. The nostalgia-invoking video features the band performing on a rooftop among scenic shots of the city, pigeons, laundry, and various everyday sights. Similar to the track, the video shines light on the small moments in someone’s life and how impactful those moments can be.

Joyer is a longstanding, cult favorite of the East Coast DIY scene. Since their inception in the late 2010s, Nick and Shane have become known for touring with bands like Horse Jumper of Love, Wishy, and villagerrr while releasing consistently bigger and louder indie rock records like 2024’s widely acclaimed Night Songs. With On The Other End of the Line…, they strip things back to take things to the next level and create songs bursting with melody and emotion in the process.
